Course Purpose

To provide senior ATC personnel with an understanding of developments in communications, satellite based navigation and surveillance technologies and their impact on ATM. The training is intended to prepare these personnel for the gradual phasing of new systems and enable them to make informed recommendations to their civil aviation administrations regarding ATC requirements. 

Course Objective's 

At the end of the course participants will be able to evaluate developments in CNS/ATM technology and examine the impact of developments on ATC operational procedures, separation standards, Air Traffic Management and draft recommendation for phasing of CNS for a selected airspace/FIR. 

Target population Civil Aviation personnel employed as Air Traffic Controllers. 
Entry requirements At least 5 years as an active Air Traffic Controllers and good command of English Language.

Course Title  Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP)

Course purpose

The course is designed to train participants to enable them to Use and amend AIP. 

Course objectives:  - Attain extensive knowledge of the following: 
  • purpose of the AIP
  • contents of AIP
  • sections of the AIP
  • general specifications to AIP
  • amendment to AIP
  • supplement to AIP

- Extensive use, explanation, allocation and extraction of information. 

- Updating AIPs, using the amendments.

Target Population: - Senior civil aviation staff
- Airline pilots
- Airline dispatchers 
- Any user of the AIPs
Mode of delivery and training techniques:

- Instructor lecturing of theoretical subjects
- Visual aids to demonstrate a point 
- Practical exercises
- On the job training in the AIS section at QAIA

Course Title AFTN/COM/OPS. Refresher Course. 
Trainee

The course is designed for participants who have a basic aeronautical telecommunication operation (ICAO code 172) and who are employed by civil aviation authority and working at the AFTN center. 

Course Aim
The ultimate aims of the course are: 
  1. type a complete AFTN message in accordance with Annex 10 Vol. 2 chapter 4. (MESSAGE FORMAT)
  2. Originate, prepare and disseminate service messages which related to all aspects of the AFTN communication center in accordance with annex 10 vol. 2 chapter 4 and manual on the planning and engineering of the aeronautical fixed telecommunication network (8259). 
  3. make compete, correct and clear entries in the written logs aviation in the AFTN center (Annex 10 vol. 2).
  4. to deal with the rejected messages in accordance with the diagnostic header line ( messir user’s manual). 
  5. employment the routing directory of the AFTN com center and apply the diversion procedures when necessary. (8259)
  6. recall the circuit and routing identification of al local and international circuit available in the AFTN center. 
  7. the use of ICAO documents, 7910, 8585 and 8400 and other relative ICAO documents and manuals. 
  8. apply correctly the recovery procedures in case of power and or equipment failure.
  9. Supervise the AFTN center activities including the computer activities.

A variety of training methods shall be used including theory lessons, practical training, and discussions.
